The Issue
In January 2025, Molecular Imaging Services (“MIS”) launched a mobile PET/CT in Oklahoma City. Within weeks, electrical disturbances began disrupting operations. By mid-2025, the PET/CT uptime had fallen to 73%. What should have been a dependable clinical asset became an imaging system plagued by repeated downtime and unstable subsystem performance. The scanner’s high-voltage CT components failed repeatedly and other critical systems — including HVAC, the lift, and the onboard generator — were also affected. What We Found
A two-week power-quality assessment (performed by a third party) showed that voltage transients, sags, and other disturbances were reaching the mobile unit from the facility supply. Utility service remained within nominal specification, but the delivered power was not stable enough for the tighter tolerances required by advanced PET/CT imaging equipment. The third-party Power Monitoring Report (“PMR”), recommended MIS acquire an online UPS to correct the issue. However, MIS already had an existing Eaton 9355 UPS on the mobile trailer supporting the PET/CT.
